Answer
A big trick a lot of people over look when re-doing small rooms is the use of mirrors! Now Im NOT saying go and PUt floor to ceiling mirrors in your room, but when your in a small room, simply just adding a mirror to the wall makes the room feeling a lot More open.
So since you have a small room painting the walls a dark color would be a bad idea! Dark colors cause rooms to feel smaller and sometimes cramped! So for your room I would suggest a cream color or an off-white:

Any of those would work! The off white lets the room feel open, and also symbolizes the sand of a tropical Paradise!
If that's too boring and you want to get a little more interesting with the wall color go with a light or pastel blue:

This is a fun color, but still keeps the room feeling open!
Now since you want tropical, and you want a place to do your homework, a desk is essential! Having a wicker plain white desk Gives it that clean, organized feel, but still keeps the room fun and tropical:

Also a white wicker bed frame would be ideal to continue the look throughout the room. I don't know what size bed you have. Queen.? Twin? But as long as you understand the white wicker than that's fine:

This is a JcPenny Bed set! Well priced. Its comfortable well made and simple. So as you get older if you don't like tropical anymore you wont have to change your bed set you can just change the theme:

I'm not sure weather you are a boy or a girl, but those bed sets have different colors. For the boys I would recommend the blue and brown one. The blue will go well with the wall. For the girls I would choose the yellow, pink, and orange one. IT would be fun and symbolize the sunset.
Since you don't have a lot of room in your room. I suggest adding a lot of wall decoration! One way to get GREAT wall decorations (And have a lot of fun doing it) Is for you and your boyfriend/girlfriend/friends/family to take a ton of pictures! I don't know about you, but I love taking pictures! Or you could get pictures you print off from online that have to do with the beach. Surfboards, sunsets, birds, etc. Then once all of your pictures are printed go and get frames for them! They don't have to be the same frame! Then get spray paint (the same white that is in your room) and spray paint all of the frames! Then put the pictures in the frame and hang them in a similar set up like this: (except with more pictures or course!)

It will look really modern and cool! It also will be a lot of fun taking the pictures AND will add a personal touch to your room! Also when painting your room, have the doors and trim stay white. If you do choose the yellow comforter your walls can be the orange that matches your bed set.
If you want to add more fun stuff to your walls go and buy a stencil. For guys you could get a stencil of a surfboard that matches the color of your bed set! And for girls, you could get the stencil of a tropical flower! Pink maybe that matches yours! Also you said you wanted to feel relaxed. I quick and simple thing that could make your room feel relaxed is adding a simple water feature! :

Science themed bedroom?
Sophie
I am a 16 year old girl looking to decorate her room. I already know that I am getting a green, gray, white bedspread and am painting my walls gray. I have a large 4 foot by 3 foot whiteboard to do homework on. I just need some things to make it look more science-y. I was thinking maybe a molecule set or solar system model. My interests really lie in astronomy, physics and chemistry. Please nothing too tacky, but maybe some posters or wall graphics. Maybe even some models??
Answer
You can use science beakers for your pens and pencils. You could buy a periodic table shower curtain or curtain or just a chart for the wall. They had one on the Big Bang theory. A microscope. I had one from a science kit that was around 20 dollars when I was little and it comes with a lot of stuff check Walmart or science store. Put one or two hooks to hang science lab coat and apron. Put your desk in the middle of the room like a lab has them. Get a poster of Albert Einstein maybe Walmart has one.
EDIT:
I remember my cousin painted her ceiling black and they put glitter in the ceiling so when you looked at it it looks like stars and stuff.
Get a skeleton. I had a small one when I was younger. It was an anatomy game pretty cool. lol I was soooooooo into science and stuff.
