You want to set it up so that it is more like a "living room" or dorm room than a bedroom. Push the bed up against a wall and put pillows on it so that it looks more like a sofa. You can get wedge bolster pillows and covers at: http://www4.jcpenney.com and type in wedge bolster pillow in the search.
Or you can buy 4 Euro pillows and shams from target and set those on the bed.
Or you could use two or three body pillows and set those against the wall on the bed and it will look more like a sofa.
You can also divide your room up so that it has an area that is for video games/watching tv etc by purchasing a 5 x 8 area rug and putting it in a corner of your room to help define the area. Then put body pillows on the floor against the wall or get bean bag chairs. Set up cubes against the wall to store items and you can even use a cube to set drinks on etc. They can be purchased at target but you can also go to Home Depot, buy the wood and have them cut to the measurements you want and make them yourself..it's much cheaper that way.
Putting Wallies on the wall is a great way to decorate too. You can get them at Walmart:
http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&ic=48_0&search_query=wallies&Find.x=0&Find.y=0&Find=Find
Anyway, if you think Dorm Room or living room instead of bedroom you can look at google images and get all kinds of inspiration.
Target is a great place for decorating Dorm rooms, etc.
Good Luck

Children's bedroom laws in Michigan?
flowergirl
My fiance and I are going through a custody battle with his ex who lives in Michigan and we live in Ohio. She sent him to live with us knowing that we only had a 2 bedroom house and I have a daughter who is 10 and the boy is 12. He has a "living space" set up in our unfinished basement. We are in the process of building an additional room there, but we have a court hearing on May 17th because she changed her mind and wants him back. Dose anyone know what the laws in Michigan are regarding a suitable bedroom for a child??
Answer
I don't know about Michigan law,but as long as you have an area for the boy that provides all he needs as well as privacy,I see no problem. If you are building a room, make sure to mention this also.Take pictures of his sleeping area now as well as the room in progress. That should help them to know that you are trying to provide a room for him of his own.
