What Do You Think Of My Story So Far?
Moriah Ren
~~~~Chapter 1~~~~
I had no idea what to do for my stupid history project Mr. Grabolino gave us. He told us to pick FOUR important people from the past and act and dress like them for a week. Is he crazy? I only know how to act like myself, Good Old Alana Rose Neal
But we still had to do it-even after begging and making yummy brownies for him- He was a jerk but LOVED my brownies
So far I have Queen Cleopatra, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine and Queen Elizabeth I (aka The Virgin Queen) I can't think of anyone else after those three wonderful ladies.
I'll just have to ask my three best friends, Eric Clark, Renae Randall (Who is the sister of Liam Randall) and Shawn Newhall (Who is the brother of my ex-boyfriend Shane Newhall) Us four have been friends since the beginning of 3rd grade.
I picked up my cell and texted them.
Hey! -Alana
Hello. -Renae
Hi!!!! -Shawn
Heyy -Eric
Do you wanna hang out 2day @ my house? -Alana
Nah, hella busy srry. -Renae
Sure :) -Eric
Hellz Yeah!! -Shawn
Okay, be here @ 3.. -Alana.
PICK UP SHAWN, ERIC!! -Alana
Haha, I will -Eric
I smiled down at my phone and put it on the charger.
Poor Shawn, I feel bad for him all the time. It must be really hard being gay in high school. He has a very nice boyfriend through... His name is Alec.
Eric is a sweet guy who has had a HUGE crush on me since 5th grade. I wonder if he will ever ask me out. I'm waiting for that day to come.
My phone rang and 'Pour Me' by Hollywood Undead started playing.
"Hello?"
"Hi, is this Miss. Alana Neal?"
"Yes it is, may I ask who you are and what you want?"
"I'm Chloe Reed, police officer, and I'm calling because of two important reasons. One, your older brother, Marco, had been arrested for DUI." She said.
A tear fell from my face as I remember the last time Marco was drinking and driving. He was taking our mother to work late one night. He got in a deadly crash, Our mother, Erica, was killed and Marco walked away with only few cuts.
"Are for real?"
"Yes, i'm sorry hun. The second thing is that my son and I are gonna be moving next door and we were wondering if you could help us move our stuff in, also so Danny around school."
"Sure thing." I said.
"Thank you very much Miss Neal" She hung up.
"Damn Marco will never learn from his damn mistakes." I said as I walked upstairs to my black wall, black carpet and posters hanging everywhere room. I went into my walk-in closet and put on a clean Black Veil Brides shirt and a pair of clean Asking Alexandria jeans. I went into my bathroom and straightened my hair, Eric says i look like a Greek Goddess.
I have wide, blue eyes that look like turquoises, long, luxurious black hair with Blonde highlights. I'm 5 foot 10 and still growing. I'm pretty tan but with a snowish color also, i'm really into the screamo/dance type of music so have of my wardrobe are shirts from the concerts. But i also have some gold, white, red, blue and black stuff in there.
After I brushed my hair, once again, I put on some make-up, put on my combat boots and went for the front door. My home phone rang, i let it go to voice mail, it was my crappy school saying we have no school for 3 weeks because of the snow. Oh by the way, i live in Chicago, Illinois, where it snows like every freaking day.
My cats, Mist and Spirit ran up to my leg and basically dragged me over to their food dish. I put some fresh dry food in there for them and they kissed my boots. They are Birman cats so they have like blue eyes and whiteish brown fur.
I decided i'll let my father get Marco from jail and get things ready for Eric and Shawn. I cleaned my bedroom, bathroom, livingroom, backyard, kitchen.. Everything!
I picked up a book I was reading the other day, The Return: Shadow Souls by L.J Smith.
By the time i was finished reading the book, it was 2:39 and i didn't make my most famous snack, sugar chocolate chip mint ice cream cookies. They can't resist them.......
PART 2 OF CHAPTER 1 COMING SOON!!!!
Answer
I am not trying to sound mean but there are a few things that jumped out at me..
- dont use the texting scene, its frankly a little confusing and doesn't do anything to add to the story.
- "Us four" is not a very good way to start any sentance it doesnt sound natural.
- When the cop calls: The single tear doesnt make too much sense, telling the reader about the death of the mother right away doesnt bring any emotion into the book. The only thing it does is set up the idea that this girl is feeling anger towards her brother. Also introducing the fact that the cop is moving in next door brings you away from the conversation its oddly placed. Maybe she finds out that the cop moves in and she meets Danny another way and that leads to helping him in school.
- there is to much description. Again it kind of takes away from the book. Describing what she looks liike all at once is an ammuture way of writing ( i catch myself doing it all the time) gradually add pieces in here and there. The reader liikes to use their own imagination to create the character they are learning about.
- overall you just need to slow down and take some time to go back and cut out some of the excessive detail. It is too fast paced for the first chapter of a book like this.
Good start though. Write with your heart fiirst then go back and write with your brain. (William Forrester)
