I just need a cheap TV for my bedroom to watch the morning news on. Is this TV decent or should I look for a different brand. I don't know how much these older sets are worth, and don't want to overpay for one.

To be honest once you get a TV in your bedroom you'll end up watching more then just the morning news trust me, and that TV isn't worth 50 bucks we are moving into a digital era. You are better off waiting and saving some money and buying a cheap digital TV for 150 or 200 bucks, something that will actually last,

I'm assuming you mean the apartment only has 1 bedroom. Call your local fire department. It is the fire marshall who sets these regulations in the US and it varies by state. New Mexico for example only allows 2 people of any age per bedroom. Missouri on the other hand allows 2 people plus 1 child under 2 per bedroom. Just ask the fire department what the fire code is where you live.
@Sara: US fire codes do not literally dictate where your children sleep. You just have to have a certain number of rooms per every certain number of people as a precaution in the event of a fire.
