Q. I am at a loss on how to design the bedroom the black is so overwelming. He won't get rid of the bedroom suit b/c it's less than a year old. Please help me!!!!!!

Sweetie, if he doesn't let you paint it. Then add Hot pink and light pink bedclothes to it. Do a paris themed bedroom with the Effiel Tower. A bright shade of red would also look nice. Or perhaps if the hardware is in silver tone you could use those colors to decorate with.
The best way is to look through some home decorating magazines in your local book store before starting to designing the bedroom itself. Get a 3 ring binder and some clear report covers and put in those design ideas that you like. Make sure most of all that you include your fiance. Just remember he has to sleep and wake up there too! Never go for that "I don't care how you decorate it" speach that they all give. Pick a theme that perhaps you are both interested in. Travel, coffee, techno, perhaps a hobby like climbing, biking, even football will work. Go for simple and elegant on a small scale for now if you are on a small budget. There are ALOT of places out there that have great ides when it comes to the bed-in-a-bag that are in just about everyone's price range.

What would you choose Black, or a Dark Cherry Bedroom Set and Why?

For decoration purposes, and whats hot right now would you say. Black to me seems modern and I like that.
I just got my bedroom set delivered today, and they brought dark cherry instead of black, screwing up the order, sigh.
Trying to decide if its worth it to go through the effort to get the Black, which I wanted first.

Obviously, it's up to you, but how much do you like the cherry? How long do you have to decide? If they give you some time, l'd live with it a while to see if it grew on me.

Glossy finishes show flaws more than satin or matte, but as a rule, the darker it is, the easier it is to correct or hide them and your choices are both good in that regard. Black will always be fashionable, but are you planning to move with this stuff? The next room may be too dark for all that black, but the cherry might not be much better. I think the colors and finishes are less a concern than the style and details as far as modernity are concerned and in your case because they are both timeless.
