Math Help Please. FINDING AREA AND FOIL METHOD.?

Q. Mrs. Johnson is looking to rent two different apartments. She wants the most amount of space she can afford. She is looking at 2 different options.
Option 1: The efficiency apartment: What is the area?
1. Set up the problem. Remember that Area = length * width
2. Simplify (Hint: use the FOIL Method)
3. If x=8, then how many square feet is the apartment? Write your answer in a sentence.

Option 2: The One bedroom apartment
1. Set up the problem. (Yes it will have numbers and letters in the area and yes you will need to subtract the porch).
2. Simplify
3. If x=4, then how many square feet is the apartment? Write your answer in a sentence.

and for question 2 http://s1363.photobucket.com/user/jonny285/media/math2_zpsf1894699.png.html

Answer
Option 1:
1) area = (2x +8)(x +3)
2) simplify (using Foil)
= 2x² + 6x + 8x + 24
= 2x² + 14x + 24

3) if x=8
=2 (8)² + 14(8) + 24
= 2(64) + 14(8) + 24
= 128 + 112+ 24
= 264 feet²

Option 2:
1) area = (x +4) (10x) - 40
2) simplify: 10x² + 40x - 40
3) if x = 4
= 10 (4)² + 40(4) - 40
= 10 (16) + 40 (4) -40
= 160 + 160 - 40
= 280 feet²

therefore Option 2 is bigger

What do I need to know & do when moving out into an apartment for the first time ever?

Pig

I have one roommate & we found a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment near our place of work for $565/month [popular area of our city, South Carolina].
Water, sewage, & trash is included.
We estimated our electricity would probably be no more than $75/month.
We were told that there is a $200 deposit to get the electricity put in our name or turned on.
Not worried about getting internet or cable @ the moment.

We've already applied & been approved without having to make a deposit...which surely surprised us.

Basically I'm just nervous about getting screwed over & stuck in the 12 month lease.
Any information would put me at ease.
Also the lady we spoke with said we could start paying our rent now if we wanted, to get ahead in our payments.
Sounds good, better to be ahead than get behind ya know?

We weren't moving until the beginning of August, though.
I was wondering what everyone thinks of this?
We figured $75 since the woman we spoke with said previous tenant's electricity ranged from $40-$60 with everything going, but not with hot water.
So quick showers it will be! Hahah.
Luckily both me & the roomie enjoy cooler temperatures so winter won't be as harsh, because we'd rather just wrap up in blankets & sweatshirts rather than it be too warm.
The lady also tipped us that when we're not there it's better to just turn up or down the AC/heat rather than turn it off to use less power...since turning it on & off will rack up more $$$.

Answer
you found a good deal-rent for 2 bedrooms AND water, sewage & trash inc for that price! I have a roommate, our elec bill is around $112. a month, but I live in FL! It is hard sometimes..I'm much cleaner than she is...try to agree on the temperature the thermostat will be set at, if she likes it cooler than you that could cause problems-my roommate likes it at 65, I like it at 72..that is our biggest issue-I am not paying a high elec bill when I don't need it that cool!!..good luck sharing a bathroom!-I could not do that!..best of luck and congratulations!
she is correct, adjust thermostat when your not at home..also don't run the fans (if you have any) if you are not in the room/house-this will run elec bill up-source:my elec company
