bedroom set espresso finish

Kristin
I am a teenage girl, currently living on the main level of my house. We recently decided to finish the basement and I will be moving down there. My room upstairs has three punch pink walls with a hot pink accent wall and a zebra duvet for my bed with pink polka dot sheets. For downstairs, I'd like to move away from the pink into something a bit more mature and yet still fun. I was looking at a Tiffany blue sort of color, but I'm not sure how well it goes with the new carpet which is two-toned with a light brown and lighter tan, very warm looking. Any suggestions would be helpful! Mostly looking for wall colors, and more than one color in the room is perfectly alright! Thank you so much for your help!(:
Answer
Paint your walls in the tan and use accent colors.... in bedding ,curtains, throws, pillows etc.
Your current color scheme on the duvet/sheets would work fine
My bedroom has the following colors
Tan walls, white trim, black and espresso furniture. Comforter set has Brown, white , blue.
Tan /beige lamps and pics on walls and pop of green ( silk plants) throughout the room.
I also have a couple of small covered brown baskets on my dresser.

You have the design ingredients for a gorgeous, sophisticated bedroom, but be very careful with how you use them. Just as using too much sugar can ruin a recipe, too much of a bold color can be overwhelming, and "themes" can quickly become tiring. Tiffany box blue is one of my favorite colors, but it's so saturated and intense I wouldn't advise using it for the entire room. I once took a Tiffany's box into a paint store and had them color-match it for me, and I was thrilled with the results for the first few months, and then really began to want a simpler, more serene shade. I think it would be lovely if you mixed in a softer neutral like almond taupe, soft bluish grey, or cream. Perhaps you could paint two walls turquoise and two in a calmer color, or just paint one focal wall in the Tiffany blue and use it as a trim around your windows. By using two colors the Tiffany blue will pop without it being overpowering, and the room will look more spacious.
I love the furniture and bedding you chose, and I think they're wonderful too because they're fairly versatile so if decide to repaint your room in a couple of years virtually anything would still match.
A lamp with a shade like this one of these would be pretty:

If you have the space and budget for a vanity table and bench I think it would be perfect for your room. You could paint it white if the furniture store where you're getting your bedroom set doesn't have one in the same wood. Maybe you could find a vanity bench with a zebra print cushion. Tiny vases could serve as containers for your makeup brushes. I'd also paint your desk and any other furniture you might have white if it's not in the espresso finish.
For wall decor, you could replace the glass in a decorative frame with a cork board for a practical but pretty piece. Using matching frames will help the room look more pulled-together and chic. You can find fairly inexpensive solid white, black or espresso frames at stores like Ikea, and you could fill them with black-and-white pictures of images you love. A large wall mirror would fit in perfectly with the Hollywood glamor vibe and make the room seem grander. Candle sconces would also be pretty.
Think of how much your style has changed in the past four years, and realize that it will probably evolve in the years to come, so you want to make sure your room can grow with you. A couple of zebra-striped things would be fine, but I wouldn't overdo it. Instead of getting a zebra print rug, I would get one with a solid color or a pretty pattern like toile. My sister has a stunning Vera Bradley rug in her room, and I also love the rugs at Anthropologie.
Also look for drapes or curtains that will work with your current theme as well as any you might choose in the future.
I hope you have fun decorating, and that your room turns out to be exactly the way you envision it to be.
